Mike Porcaro
My name is Mike Porcaro. I am 20 years-old and a student-athlete at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where I am majoring in journalism. I grew up in Racine, Wisconsin where I spent the first 14 years of my life before moving out to Burlington, Wisconsin during my freshman year of high school.
Ever since I was in kindergarten, my days have always consisted of reading the sports page or reading sports articles online. During high school, I started to enjoy writing and took an interest in the journalism classes I took. That is why I chose journalism as my major.
During my high school career, I had the great opportunity of broadcasting sporting events for our school radio. Getting on-air experience at such a young age was so valuable. Doing the play-by-play of basketball games and conducting post-game interviews with players was such a neat experience.
I am currently a member on the UWM Baseball team. Being a student-athlete is a lot of hard work and takes a lot of dedication. But at the same time it is preparing me for the future. Being an athlete has taught me so many life lessons. Being apart of team gives me the opportunity to work with others and be a leader at certain times. Having to juggle school, practice and homework has taught me how crucial time management is.
I have a lot of experience with social media. I have created and managed a Twitter and Facebook page for a business while also controlling my own. I am an active user on Twitter. I find the media to be very interesting and I am eager to be apart of it.
I am a self-motivated, hard-working individual looking to help a company with the media and writing skills I already possess. I hope you enjoy my page!
