Michael Huxley

I have a zealous passion for backpacking and independent travel and have spent the last decade exploring as much of the world as I can reach on extended trips and shorter snap years.

I am the founder and editor of www.bemusedbackpacker.com the ultimate website for first time backpackers and world travellers. I am also an author and travel writer and have published numerous books on a variety of subjects, noteably the Bemused Backpacker series of travel books and guides, and my debut novel The Sphinx Legacy.

I am also a qualified and registered charge nurse with a specific interest in emergency and travel medicine. I have put this skill set to good use on my travels by volunteering as an expedition medic on various trekking expeditions in jungle, mountain, volcanic and desert terrains in numerous countries, as well as volunteering for various community health projects across the world. I have also volunteered my time in a variety of conservation and animal welfare projects which I am also passionate about and have spent a short time teaching English abroad as well as teaching a few self defence and martial arts classes along the way.
