When I was a Junior in high school (1983-4), I had to write one of those "where I'll be in 20 years" essays. At the time, I was sure that I'd be a successful chemical engineer (CE) with several patents to my name.

How naive we can be...

Although I did a short stint as a chemist (and have the patents to show for it), I've been a full-time geek for the last 20 years. I've been able to wear all the hats in the IT industry—frequently simultaneously—and love solving problems using the A-to-Z of technology: from automation (based on code I write—long live Perl!) to wireless (and any other sort of networking) and everything in between. I cut my teeth on NetWare 3.11 and 10Base-2 after receiving my CS degree, and have had my code and solutions integrated into finished products being sold by vendor partners.

Today I have the pleasure of working as a "solution engineer" for VMware, providing technical confidence to my constituents.
