Myssie Cardenas-Barajas

A few months before I turned 42, I ran the first mile ever in my life. Since then, I have run 3 full marathons, 9 half marathons, 16 triathlons, 1 century ride and will be attempting my first half ironman this year. I was the first Triple Crown winner in South Texas for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Why am I doing these crazy things?

I lost my mother, my sissy and my baby brother in one horrendous year because of cancer. And I made a promise to them that I will not stop until there is affordable and accessible cancer treatment for everyone and that the cause and a cure for cancer be found so that my children and their children won't ever have to endure what we did.

A bit extreme? Maybe. But so was what cancer did to us. No one should have to go through that. EVER
