Morgan Romine, Ph.D., is a cultural anthropologist, advocate, and consultant who specializes in gaming and esports communities. She is the Director of Initiatives for AnyKey, an advocacy group that leads research and programs supporting diversity and inclusion in gaming. Known to gamers as “Rhoulette,” Morgan was the co-founder and Captain of the Frag Dolls, Ubisoft’s all-women professional competitive gaming team, from 2004-2011.

As a game industry veteran, Morgan has worked in community management, esports, and online marketing for 15 years. Her research interests include digital citizenship, online communities, esports, social equity, and developer cultures in tech. She received her Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California at Irvine in 2016.

In 2009 she was named one of ‘The Most Influential Women in Technology’ by fastcompany.com, and in 2006 she was included in the ‘Game Industry’s 100 Most Influential Women’ by Next-Gen.biz. The Game Developers Conference recognized her talk about women’s esports tournaments as one of the Top 50 talks at GDC 2016. She is on the Board of Advisors for UC Irvine’s collegiate esports program.
