Naomi Melati Bishop

New York, NY

Naomi was born in Indonesia—to odd soul mates: a Javanese countess and palace dancer and a quixotic, New Yorker, poet/activist dad—and moved to NYC when she was eleven.

Naomi is a teacher, spice-addict, travel writer, and aspiring kickboxer with a serious case of wanderlust. She teaches, and mentors students in Social Solutions Project (SSP) at NYU's Stern School of Business. She coordinates weekly events and helps students refine their writing skills, while mentoring them as they develop pro-social start-up businesses that create true shared value.

An MFA candidate at NYU's Graduate Creative Writing Program, Naomi is currently tapping at the keyboard toward completing her first book.

Naomi is launching INK.ED MFA, a Mixed Genre, Citywide MFA Reading Series, Workshop and Anthology, where ideas may be exchanged beyond the boundaries of individual university campuses and writers can interact with a diverse literary audience. Debut reading on Wednesday, June 25th 2014. Lineup includes Yusef Komunyakaa, Phillip Lopate & Mary Morris. 58 West 10th Street. RSVP [email protected].
