We have in the last 5 years focused on medicinal chemistry in the field of wafer antibiotics,drug for movement disorders,CNS tuberculosis,epilepsy and pain,drug discovery from indigenous plants.
We established our cognitive neurosciences group after the MEG,ERP neuroscience lab was established last year.Together with the Transcranial Magnetic stimulation facilities and complate animal behaviour lab we plan to concentrate on comparative as well as human psychology and cognitive neurosciences.The arrival of the 3Tesla Actieva Philips fMRI which will begin it's experiments in Janaury 2012 will add additional momentum to our neurosciences experiment with the vision to put neurosciences research as an important contribution to Malaysian scientific scenario.
I am happy to be one of the pioneer lecturers involved in the 2012/2013 establishment of the Integrated Master/Doctor of Neuroscience of which Dr Muzaimi Mustapha is the coordinatorEstablished these program:Masters of Neurosurgery USM(2001),Advanced Masters of Medicine(Neurology) USM(2007),Masters and PhD Neurosciences(2004),Neurosciences labs in Magnetoencephalography,Neurosciences genetic,animal behavior,electrophysiology,cell culture and stem cell labs and most recently functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging and neuroinformatics lab.Also started the epilepsy surgery and deep brain stimulation program with Prof John Tharakan,Dr Zamzuri Idris,Dr Shalini Ananda,Dr Abdul Rahman Izaini Ghani,Dr Sani Sayuthi.Established the intervention pain and spasticity services with Dr Zamzuri Idris,Dr Nizar Jalil,Dr Shamsul and Dr Laila Mukmin.Designed and established the most elaborate Neuro ICU and High dependency unit in South East Asia with complete relevant acute neurolab services including cerebral microdialysis.

Buildt a videotelemetry room for adult/pediatric epilepsy and sleep monitoring.
Ran a complete intraoperative monitoring program for spine,brain and pherpheral nerve,awake neurosurgery.
Beginning in 2012 a intergrated Master/PhD program in neurosciences.
Established Neuroscience clubs and school labs in two schools SMSTFP and SKK3.Am the Current Director of a Neuroscience center:Pusat Kecemerlangan Perkhidmatan dan Penyelidikan Neurosains,Universiti Sains Malaysia established 16th December 2011 by YBerhormat DTK Khaled Nordin.
