Omar Mohammed
Reporter in Greater Boston, Massachusetts
I have nearly a decade of experience as a business, economics and sports journalist working for some of the top news outlets in the world, such as Reuters, Bloomberg, and Quartz. I was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism where I graduated with a Master's in Business and Economics reporting in 2022.
I have interviewed CEOs, policymakers, and athletes, and covered major stories that include the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan, presidential campaigns, the economic impact of Covid in East Africa.
My work with colleagues at Reuters earned a nomination at the Deadline Club Awards, where I was a finalist in 2019. My sports reporting was longlisted for The International Sports Press Association Media Awards in 2023 and voted in the top ten of sports stories from Africa. He is fluent in English and Kiswahili.
I like to tell stories that inform, engage, and inspire with compelling and credible journalism.
My experience also includes radio where was a Senior Producer for a weekly magazine show that aired on the BBC Swahili Service. And I created and hosted @Mgahawa, a weekly news review show on East Africa Television.
When I am not writing and thinking about journalism, I like watching football (soccer for my American friends) and NBA basketball. I love to read fiction and vibe music, especially jazz and Afrobeats.
