I'm the founding editor and editor at large of Motherboard at Vice, a contributing editor at Fast Company, and a freelance writer with a focus on the intersections of science, technology, media, politics, and culture. My writing about those and other topics—transportation, design, media, architecture, environment, psychology, art, music—has also appeared in A+U, Architectural Record, Domus, Entertainment Weekly,Foreign Policy, The Guardian, New York Magazine, The New York Observer, The New Yorker, Science, Slate, Time, and Treehugger.
I am interested in cities and their future, and serve on the board of Bandwagon, a startup I co-founded that helps people share rides from airports, events, and dense urban spaces. We are based at the Urban Future Lab in Brooklyn. I'm also an advisor to Imagine Science Films.
I received a bachelors degree from Harvard College and lived in Russia as a U.S. State Dept. fellow and in China as a Princeton In Asia fellow.
