Patrick Mceachen

In elementary school, Patrick McEachen won accolades in cross-country running and basketball. Despite his success in these sports, Mr. McEachen’s focus has long been ice hockey. Currently setting his sights on a position in the Professional Hockey League, Mr. McEachen has played ice hockey since he was two years old. Today, McEachen balances serious hockey training with his education. He studies Economics at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Patrick McEachen joined Canada’s hockey system at age five, when he played for the Stouffville Clippers, a Rep A team. Most recently (from 2009 to 2010), he served as cocaptain of the Wellington Dukes Junior A hockey team. Both years, McEachen won a spot on the Battle of Ontario All-Star team. Patrick is playing in his fourth and last year with Queens University varsity hockey team (Gaels).

In 2010, he scored more points in the Central Canadian Hockey League playoffs than any other defensive player. From 2008 to 2009, Patrick McEachen played and served as captain for the Stouffville Spirit Junior A team and began attracting attention from NHL scouts. In 2008, the NHL’s Central Scouting division included him on its Players to Watch list. McEachen also played that year at the NHL Top Prospects Game hosted by the Canada Junior Hockey League. In 2009, he interviewed with five NHL teams before the league’s draft began. Though he has succeeded so far in his hockey career, McEachen remains levelheaded about his prospects for playing professionally. Patrick McEachen does hope to have a professional hockey career, but he also aims to succeed in business once he hangs up his skates. This goal, too, seems within reach, as he has distinguished himself academically since elementary school.

While enrolled at Glad Park French Immersion Public School, he won a French speech contest. Later, at Brother Andre Catholic High School, he earned an Academic Achievement Award for Canadian History and a French Diploma for his mastery of oral and written French. To relax from his academic and athletic pursuits, McEachen listens to country music and reads suspense novels.
