Paul Okoro
Tech Ecosystem Architect, Entrepreneur, and Developer in Warri, Nigeria
Paul Okoro is a Tech Ecosystem Architect, Entrepreneur, Developer, and Social Impact Champion. He founded his first company LessStress Solutions Limited in 2015.
In 2016 he started doing tech community building work. He noticed that many tech people in Warri back then were working in isolation. So he set out to organized them, to come together as one united, tech community where people can network, collaborate, learn and share as well as provide support to one another. In mid 2017, Paul and some friends, co-founded Warri's first tech community: the "Warri Tech Network" [WTN]. The community grew rapidly under Paul's leadership as Executive Director from less than 60 techies in 2017, to state-wide tech community today with members numbering in the thousands.
As members of the local tech community increased, the need for technology and innovation hubs that will provide support services to local techies became more evident. In June 2019 Paul and his business partner Timothy, co-founded the Warri Innovation Hub with help from two prominent figures from the Nigerian tech space; Iyin Aboyeji and Adia Sowho.
As a tech community builder, Paul has organized dozens of tech events and programs in Warri that has impacted positively the lives of thousands of youths in Warri. From Warri Tech Meetup to Warri Tech Awareness Week Campaigns, Warri Girls Code, Warri Hackathon TechPowerment etc. Community building work has allowed Paul the opportunity of meeting and engaging with some top organisations in Nigeria, the likes of Google, Facebook, CcHub, World Bank, Andela, British Council, Ingressive, Flutterwave, Techpoint, PIND, NCC etc.
Paul is the chapter director/organizer of ForLoop Warri, Laravel Warri, Startup Grind Warri, DevCTrainingWithAndela Warri and lot's more. He's won 1st prize in two hackathons he participated in; “Hack Warri” [Warri, 2017], “Naija Hack” [Lagos, 2018] He's spoken at several tech events such as TEDx Ogunu and the Warri Digital Summit. Paul was featured in the documentary “Defiant Embers” by the British Council in 2018.
Paul believes strongly that innovation, technology and entrepreneurship are viable tools that can bring about massive positive socioeconomic transformation in Africa. This belief is what inspired him to recently take up the responsibility of leading the "Africa Digital Transformation Campaign". A project that will take him across several African cities/towns, as he pushes for Africa's digital transformation at the grassroots level.
