Susan Eileen Evans
Artist, Photographer, and Designer in Mariposa, California
Art is neither an object nor an occupation, but an expression of the soul of the artist. My inspiration comes from nature, from tiny wildflowers to sweeping landscapes. Since I was a child, I have collected things in nature that inspire me. I keep a box of treasured objects filled with things such as an abandoned paper wasp nest and a dead carpenter bee. An array of 'pretty rocks' sits on a windowsill. What I see around me becomes part of my soul and finds expression in photography and digital art. If you find the art share with you to be on the walls of your home and grace the walls of your heart, then I have accomplished my goal.
I love photography and editing my photos to perfection, but I also find great joy in creating new art with my photographs. Photo art is a relatively new way of achieving unique art. -- Art that is just as valuable as traditionally created art. It simply uses digital tools. For me, a photograph
is the beginning of a creative journey. I enjoy editing my own photos, sometimes I make use of public domain photos. I Use a wide variety of editing software ranging from the traditional photo editing utilities to specialty software, designed to create a painting from a photograph. Often starting with photo touch up, removing unwanted objects, and photo flaws, I then adjust exposure, contrast and color balance. Sometimes that is enough to achieve what I had in mind for that particular photo. Other times I experiment with several programs, adding effects or textures one on top of the other, until I am satisfied. My styles range from realism to abstract to graphic effects.
