I have been teaching in Los Angeles since 2007. I want students to become critical producers with empowered voices.

I enjoy engaging readers with comic books in an attempt to foster dialogue and nurture relationships that empower students.

The influence spatial constructs have on personal narratives and relationships, specifically in educational places, intrigues me.

I've also worked with the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA instructing teacher candidates in Critical Media Literacy.

While some of my research has appeared in print media, I more often present research from my classrooms at conferences like the American Educational Research Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Writing Project, San Diego Comic-Con International, and Denver Comic-Con.

A friend and I, as ComicEd, are writing a book on a critical pedagogy with comic books.

Some more friends and I record and release music as Maude Gun.
