Software, including the Internet--which is powered by software--creates opportunity via transparency by tearing down artificial or antiquated constructs and barriers to free the flow of information and ideas. Software liberates individuals so that they can express and share their thoughts and opinions and, thereby, expose their capabilities to the world. The corollary is that software facilitates discovery of others' ideas, interests, and capabilities. Software then helps align people around shared goals and to accomplish these goals with less effort and greater effectiveness. Software liberates companies to allow them to focus on their key business capabilities and then intimately connect with their customers and suppliers and partners. Software allows them to optimize their business in real-time using "Big Data." Imagine what we can unlock and achieve when we connect 600 billion billion neurons. It's still early days, so there are incredible investment opportunities ahead of us--the dynamic, optimal utilization of resources in the system whether at the individual, company, ecosystem, network, and machine levels... I'm a venture capitalist at Merus Capital, an early-stage venture firm focused on entrepreneurs enabling this vision within Cloud, Commerce, and Mobile. I founded Merus with two very smart guys with whom I've known, worked with, and trusted for over ten years. We've been investing in entrepreneurs developing what we refer to as "real software solving real problems" since we left Microsoft/Google in 2007.
