I grew up profoundly deaf in a hearing family, mainstreamed in the public school system before the ADA law, before interpreters and notetakers, and obviously before the internet and it's now widely available plethora of resources for parenting deaf children.

I married my deaf husband in 1989 and together we have raised four hearing children, two who are now adults, and two still at home. Our children face unique challenges as CODAs (Children Of Deaf Adults), but have adapted beautifully.

I hold an Associate of Arts degree in Speech Communication from Austin Community College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from Texas State University. I minored in Psychology.

Currently, I am a Deaf Guide with Texas Hands & Voices Guide By Your Side program which offers support to hearing parents of deaf children. Through my work in this non-profit organization, I come across deaf parents with hearing children wanting similar support. It is my mission to obtain information and resources that will help these parents much like the TX GBYS program offers to hearing parents with deaf children. The situations are diverse, resources can be difficult to find, and the need is great.
