Dr. Laurence “Larry” Benz, DPT, OCS, MBA, FAPTA is the Founder of Confluent Health, a musculoskeletal platform company with holdings in physical therapy, occupational health, education, and digital health where he led as CEO and Executive Chairman since inception. He is nationally recognized for his expertise in private practice physical therapy. He writes a newsletter, All Things PhysicalTherapy
Prior to restructuring at Confluent Health, his PT Development LLC equity fund included holdings in Family Home Health, US Worldmeds, Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, and physicaltherapist.com amongst many others.
From 1987 to Sept 2007, he founded and served as President/CEO of Kentucky Orthopedic Rehab Team (KORT), a private practice outpatient physical therapy company which became the largest private practice in Kentucky and Southern Indiana which he eventually expanded to North Carolina and Florida and sold to Select Medical.
From 1984 through 1989, he served in the U.S. Army as a Captain in the Army Medical Specialists Corps where he received the Meritorious Service Medal.
Dr. Benz's current interests include conducting research around a care pathway that puts physical therapy first and integrating empathy, compassion, and positive psychology interventions within physical therapy care. With over 200 invited presentations to PT programs, national conferences, and MBA programs throughout the country, Dr. Benz has been on APTA's Advisory Panel on Practice and The Board of the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and is currently a Trustee with The University of Louisville and with the health system UL Health.
He is the recipient of numerous business and physical therapy awards including the Kentuckiana Business Hall of Fame, Catherine Worthingham Fellows, Private Practice Dicus Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the year for his region.
