Pucong Han

I am currently a student in Columbia's new dual masters degree program in Journalism and Computer Science, and I expect to graduate in May 2013.

Through my education and work experiences, I have gained extensive writing and editing abilities. While studying at Columbia Journalism School, I covered a business beat related to consumer electronics and produced both print and multimedia stories using video, photos and audio. I frequently aggregated related articles and news on my Tumblr site and social media accounts. As an intern at People's Daily USA, I wrote numerous original articles and produced various multimedia stories in both English and Chinese. My stories have been published on People's Daily Online.

As part of the dual masters degree program, I was also trained to visualize data and build web applications for journalistic purposes. While studying at Columbia University Computer Science Department, I put emphasis on database design and implementation, data mining, user interface design and web development. As an social media & web intern at Sohu.com Inc, I developed and promoted journalism over social networks, particularly microblogging and micromessaging platforms. I designed and built a web front end to fetch stories from social networks using PHP. As an information technology intern at Times Inc, I re-designed and built a server-based tool with a server-hosted MySQL database in the back-end using Ruby on Rail. This new tool manages planned events, stories and live incidents.
