Radcliffe Bailey Atlanta Georgia
Atlanta, GA, US
Through his work as a painter, sculptor, and installer, Radcliffe Bailey inspires his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. His work is never limited to one particular style, and it often reflects African-American history in some way. In a 2011 solo exhibition titled Memory as Medicine, he featured elements of Atlanta along with the history of his ascendants. In addition to various mixed-media creations, the exhibition included “Windward Coast.” The creative installation combined re-purposed piano keys with the sculpture of an African-American person’s head. Through his work on the Memory as Medicine piece and other mixed-media projects, Radcliffe Bailey encourages the Black Atlantic Diaspora to connect with their heritage and embrace where they came from.
Bailey aims to create unique pieces of art that represent a broad range of experiences. Through the use of photographs, memorabilia, clay, and other mediums, he creates art that allows a wide audience to connect with its meaning. As a result, large crowds have been drawn to his work.
