Software Engineer in Seattle
My name is Rafael. I was born in Ceara, one of the poorest states in Brazil. I came from very humble origins: my father a shopkeeper whose specialty was fireworks and my mother worked at home, taking care of us.
One day I've decided I should leave my comfort zone and try new challenges somewhere else. When I finished school, I went Recife and joined UFPE (Universidade Federal de Pernambuco) to take computer science course. Recife became my new home for at least the next 6 years.
I also took a master's degree course there. My field of study was concurrent programming during master's degree: in particular, I was studying how to make easier to debug common issues caused by bad composition of locks in programming languages.
During bachelors I spent a few years practicing ACM ICPC problems for programming competitions.
Also worked with open-source project WebKit (rendering engine used by Chrome, Safari and other browsers) while I worked at INdT (Nokia Institute of Technology) as an intern & full-time employee.
However, after a while, I've decided to leave my comfort zone another time and went to Seattle for an internship. Great iOS development experience. It turned into a full-time opportunity which brought me to London and then Seattle.
I'm very passionate with web-related technology, game development, code optimization, parallel programming, algorithms, mobile app development, ranking optimizations and a little bit of machine learning.
