Since launching his career as a dermatologist, Dr. Rafael Schulze continually strives to be an active participant of his professional community. Dr. Schulze is a member of several organizations, such as the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons, the American College of Mohs Surgery, and the Association of Military Dermatologists. Dr. Rafael Schulze has been published in several industry journals, including the International Journal of Dermatology, Dermatologic Surgery, and Military Medicine and authored a book chapter in the premier dermatology textbook, Surgery of the Skin. Additionally, Dr. Schulze has delivered a number of presentations to organizations such as the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the San Diego Dermatological Society, and to the California Facial Plastic Surgery Society.

Before going into dermatology, Dr. Rafael Schulze spent seven years as an engineer in the U.S. Army, garnering numerous commendations. His career changed paths in 1997 when he was awarded the Army Health Professions Scholarship to attend the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and completing his medical degree, Magna Cum Laude. Upon his graduation, Dr. Schulze finished his internship at Walter Reed and subsequently transferred to South Korea where he served as a Clinic Commander. One year later, he returned to the U.S. to complete a dermatology residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California. In 2006, Dr. Schulze moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he spent a total of two years as a general dermatology staff at the Brooke Army Medical Center. During that time, he was deployed to Iraq, where he served as a Theater Dermatologist. After returning to the U.S., Dr. Schulze completed a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology.

.In his spare time, Dr. Schulze enjoys maintaining his physical fitness, advancing his Brazilian jiu jitsu skills, salsa dancing, cooking with his two children, and sailing occasionally.
