I am a media strategist based in Pakistan. I work in the areas of civic technology and news technologies and innovation.
I co-founded and run Hacks/Hackers Pakistan, part of the global Hacks/Hackers movement, an international network of journalists (“hacks”) and technologists (“hackers”) rethinking the future of news and information.
I worked as a Knight International Journalism Fellow in Pakistan last year creating partnerships and collaborations on data driven journalism and strengthening hacker communities in Pakistan.
In the past I have created and led Mind Your Media (and a spin-off pilot Mind Your Ratings), a media advocacy and public education project part of the Pakistan Coalition for Ethical Journalism at PeaceNiche. I also worked with the IT University developing media and technology curricula and open data journalism partnerships for the Open Government Initiative.
For over seven years, I worked in both print and broadcast journalism as an editor, reporter and producer with The Express Tribune, Express 24/7, Geo TV and The News. I now write on media issues specifically digital policy, governance and politics, media law, privacy and censorship.
I am a graduate of New York University’s Media, Culture and Communication department at the Steinhardt School where I was a Fulbright scholar. I am also a Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher.
