RaKerry Rahman, MD, holds responsibilities in Springfield as a Cervical Spine & Scoliosis Specialist practicing with the prestigious Springfield Clinic, LLP. He also serves as Chief, Adult Deformity Service, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Spinal Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Dr. Rahman’s current position builds on five years of internships and residencies with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia University in the field of orthopedic surgery. From 2010 to 2011, he undertook a spine surgery fellowship with the Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University Orthopedics on the Washington University Medical Center campus in St. Louis. While there internationally renowned spine experts Drs. Keith Bridwell, Lawrence Lenke, and Dan Reiw mentored him. During this time, RaKerry Rahman, MD, engaged as a Faculty Instructor, teaching Current and Emerging Issues in Complex Lumbar Spine Surgery. After being in practice for two years, Dr. Rahman returned to Washington University for a Complex Adult & Pediatric Spinal Deformity Apprenticeship with Dr. Lawrence Lenke. During that time he refined his techniques for the most challenging spine cases requiring difficult and high-risk osteotomy procedures.

Dr. Rahman began his studies in Chemistry at Hampton University in Virginia, subsequently earning a BS in Chemistry summa cum laude at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. From 2000 to 2005, he pursued a Doctor of Medicine, earning honors and distinction in research at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry in New York. As a medical student, RaKerry Rahman gave a 2004 oral presentation on “The Role of Interleukin-1 in Particle Mediated Inflammatory Bone Loss” at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Research Symposium. This presentation reflected Dr. Rahman’s research work as a Bristol-Myers Squibb Academic Medicine Fellow. Also in 2004, he achieved membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Rahman has authored a number of sections in medical textbooks, most recently “Classification of Spondylolisthesis” in Chapter 34 of The Textbook of Operative Spine Surgery, 3rd Edition (Bridwell KH, ed., Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2009).
