Rebecca Lowdon
Scientist and Student in St. Louis, Missouri
I am a graduate student in the Molecular Genetics & Genomics program at Washington University in St. Louis. What drives me as a scientist is to understand how the genome and environment drive normal (or abnormal) organismal development. As a graduate student in the Wang lab I am investigating epigenome changes during development. I leverage model organisms and human data and employ experimental and computational methods in my research.
I care about communicating science -- to the public, to policy makers, and to other scientists. Along with writing about my own field of epi/genomics, I am writing about science literacy, women in science, or science & public policy. With ProSPER, I am exploring how science informs public policy with other graduate students at Wash U.
Originally from southwest Virginia, I love the outdoors, biking, hiking, and exploring. When not in lab, I am probably at yoga class, drinking coffee, or at home with my very needy cat.
