I was the kid in high school who was always doodling in the margins. I designed the programs for the one-act-plays. I held my first "art exhibition" at the age of 5 (I taped pencil drawings to my bedroom door and sold them to my parents for 5 cents each). Good color sense is my superpower.

At Sky Lake Design Studio, my small-but-agile design firm, I specialize in creating print and web layouts that communicate. That means I leverage knowledge of color, typesetting, typography, imagery and layout to effectively disseminate client messages. I love working with PR and Marketing firms and particularly enjoy building websites around Public Affairs issues.

I've been a graphic designer for more than 20 years and am seeking new clients and challenging projects. My toolbox includes the Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat, as well as WordPress, Constant Contact, MailChimp and asset design for all types of social media platforms. Most recently I've built expertise in using the Elementor page builder, and the Paid Memberships Pro membership management tool, both for WordPress.

In addition to designing all manner of things for clients, I co-authored a popular beginning designer's textbook. “White Space is Not Your Enemy: A Beginner’s Guide to Communicating Visually through Graphic, Web and Multimedia Design,” was originally published by Focal Press in March 2010. A third edition was released in 2017 and a fourth edition is on deck. It's being used in Mass Communications departments across the country, and has been translated into five languages.
