Richard McCormick
Chef and Consultant in Helsinki, Finland
I am a Chef / Restaurateur & Food Truck owner, presently based in Helsinki. I have lived, worked & travelled to Asia, the USA, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Japan, Russia, the UK, & Morocco, and my food reflects this in a fusion of taste, texture & color.
By my teenage years, I had already lived in & visited numerous countries in the Caribbean, Southeast Asia & the Orient. Growing up in exotic regions of the world & experiencing local cuisines, greatly influenced my culinary tastes and helped me to develop a strong base for my future love of global street food.
As a 16-year-old teenager, I was already running my first kitchen in Denmark; Spain, Japan, Russia, London and Scandinavia followed. After studying to be an apprentice chef in Denmark, I completed culinary school in Helsinki. I continued my training at the prestigious Ian Schrager Hotels in London and soon after, became an executive chef at Norways, Sogn og Fjordane Resort Hotel in Skei.
I am now based in Finland and have brought my knowledge & experience to the Helsinki restaurant world. I have successfully run kitchens like New York Ninja, Siltanen, Nolla, Shanghai Cowboy, Tokyo Girl and now Sandro in Kallio & Eira. Sandro was chosen the best new restaurant of the year by Helsingin Sanomat Nyt-liite (11/2013). In 2014, Sandro won three categories in City-Lehti’s vote for best restaurant in Helsinki: Best Restaurant, Best Ethnic Restaurant and Best Brunch. We recently opened The Cock, a popular family-style Eatery, Rotisserie and Bar. On May 6th, 2016 Holiday opened... an exciting new bar, kitchen & terrace by your holiday guides Richard McCormick & Ville Relander.
My culinary concepts have proven successful in several pop-up restaurants, catering events, music festivals & Richard McCormick's Food Truck......... Follow That Truck!
My first 2 cookbooks came out this summer... The Sandro Book & the Paris Book and I recently finished working on my third..The Barcelona Book, now in print. In Sept 2016, Richard McCormick's Tokyo will also be available.
