A trained medical professional, Dr. Richard Pines began preparing for his career at Loyola University Chicago, where he graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in biology and psychology. Following this, he remained at Loyola to earn a master of arts in developmental psychology. Dr. Richard Pines continued his training with a doctor of osteopathy at the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by a rotating osteopathic internship in conjunction with Lakeview Hospital in Milwaukee. Subsequently, he fulfilled the obligations of a pediatrics residency and a psychiatry residency with the Oregon Health & Science University and the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry, respectively. Dr. Richard Pines remained at the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry to complete his formal training with a fellowship in child psychiatry.

In recognition of his clinical knowledge, Dr. Pines holds board certifications in general psychiatry and in child and adolescent psychiatry. In addition, he affiliates with such professional organizations as the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Medical Association.
