Rob DeMillo
CEO, venture partner, and Strategist in San Francisco, California
I am the Chief Executive Officer of Sophia Space, leading the company’s mission to redefine cloud computing by moving compute infrastructure to orbit. Our work focuses on developing scalable, space-based servers and, ultimately, full-scale data centers.
I am also a Venture Partner at SparkLabs Global, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Over the past 30 years, I have worked across media, mobile, advertising, architecture, and computer graphics, always driven by a passion for making technology meaningful and engaging for people.
My tenure at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and my work in cloud computing was recognized by TechExec magazine in 2021: TechExec Magazine Issue 03. Additionally, my work in digital media was honored in 2012 when I was named one of EContent’s Top 15 Influencers in Digital Media: EContent Top 15.
In 2012, I joined SparkLabs, a startup accelerator in Korea founded by Bernard Moon, Hanjoo Lee, and James Kim. SparkLabs provides critical support for Korean entrepreneurs as they expand into the U.S. and other global markets.
Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to contribute to a number of successful startups, including:
- Nimble Collective (acquired by Amazon)
- Revision3 (acquired by Discovery Communications, leading to my appointment as CTO of Discovery Digital)
- Transpera (acquired by Tremor Media)
- Third Screen Media (acquired by AOL)
- m-Qube (acquired by Verisign)
- ATG(IPO'ed in 1999)
- MediaRush (acquired by an undisclosed company)
I also advise multiple startups.
I began my career as a scientist in computer science, physics, and astronomy, working at NASA/JPL and MIT/Lincoln Laboratory (for the FAA) before moving into the startup world.
Note: As of March 2018, I have permanently removed myself from Facebook and can no longer be reached through that platform.
