I am a Partner at XSeed Capital, and my investment areas include business operations where computational technologies automate/improve company performance, mobile solutions for firms of all sizes, and software systems that shape both business and consumer behaviors.

I sit on the Board of Directors of Cape Productions and Caller Zen, and I led XSeed’s investments in Zooz, Castle Global, Lex Machina (acquired by LexisNexis of the RELX Group — NYSE: RELX), CirroSecure (acquired by Palo Alto Networks — NYSE: PANW), Growbot, Breezeworks, The League, Nova, Trove,Teapot, Smart Coffee Technology, Neon, Pixlee, ZipLine Medical and SIPX(acquired by ProQuest). I also support other portfolio companies such as Citrine Informatics.

I am on the faculty at the Stanford Graduate School of Business where I teach Strategic Management of Technology and Innovation,The Industrialist’s Dilemma, Strategies of Effective Product Management, Formation of New Ventures and Entrepreneurial Finance. In these classes I have led research and written cases on companies including Google, Box, AngelList, SurveyMonkey, Medium, Wikimedia Foundation, Zuora, Minted, 500 Startups, TrueCar, Axel Springer, General Electric and Starbucks (La Boulange), amongst others.

I am on the Board of SmartDrive Systems, and am the Chairman of the Strategic Advisory Board for TTTech in Vienna, Austria. I have co-authored several articles for California Management Review, am a Wall Street Journal Startup Guru, and frequently contribute to Fortune, TechCrunch, VentureBeat and Forbes.

Prior to joining XSeed, I was General Manager of the Video and Software Solutions division for GE Security. I was previously Executive Vice President of Pixim, Inc., a fabless semiconductor firm specializing in image sensors and processors (acquired by Sony). Before Pixim, I was Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Weave Innovations Inc. (acquired by Kodak).

I served in various management roles at Intel Corporation, including an executive position on their Corporate Business Development team, in which I invested capital in startups. Previous to Intel, I held a series of senior sales and marketing positions at GeoWorks, which went public in 1993.

I am the co-inventor of four patents and served as lead researcher for Andy Grove’s best-selling book,Only the Paranoid Survive.

I hold a BA from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Stanford University.

I am married to Debbie Siegel and we have three children.
