Ross Hammersley

Ross is an attorney in Traverse City, Michigan and partner with the law firm of Olson & Howard, P.C. He is currently (2024-25) the Chairperson of the Environmental Law Section for the State Bar of Michigan, is a past-President and current Board Member with TART Trails, Inc., a local non-profit focused on trails and non-motorized transportation options, is a Board Member for the Heart of the Lakes, a state-wide conservation advocacy organization, and was previously the Board Chair of Traverse City's municipal utility, Traverse City Light & Power. Prior to practicing law, he was a non-profit advocate, campaign director, restoration ecologist, and an environmental educator, working with such organizations as Environment California, the Fund for Public Interest Research, the Audubon Society, and YMCA Storer Camps. As a law student and then an attorney, Ross also worked with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, and Frank, Haron & Weiner, PLC. Ross studied ecology and natural resource management issues at the University of Michigan in the School of Natural Resources and Environment, and studied environmental law at the Michigan State University College of Law, where he also served as Editor-in-Chief of the Michigan State Law Review.
