ROBERT P. SEAWRIGHT

Hailed as a "retirement guru" by AdvisorOne and Research magazine and in high demand as a conference speaker and author, Robert P. Seawright is the Chief Investment & Information Officer for Madison Avenue Securities, a broker-dealer and investment advisory firm headquartered in San Diego, California. He is also the author of Above the Market, a highly respected blog with a readership that extends to more than 50 countries around the world. Above the Market discusses issues regarding capital markets and personal finance. Bob is also a regular columnist for Research magazine and contributing editor to Portfolioist.

Bob earned his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York and his J.D. from Duke University. He practiced law for a decade before being recruited to Wall Street and what was once Merrill Lynch. As an attorney, he represented broker-dealers, insurance companies and banks in major offerings and transactions. At Merrill, he was a highly successful financial advisor and served on the Chairman’s Advisory Council, a small group of senior representatives who met regularly with executive management to provide advice with respect to the firm’s strategy and direction. At Madison, Bob’s role is as thought leader for the firm’s independent advisors, providing counsel and guidance with respect to the latest industry trends, research and best practices.

As a registered representative since 1992, he has worked in both the institutional and private client markets, has advised hundreds of registered representatives and clients about financial issues, products and portfolios and has conducted scores of seminars and workshops for both financial advisors and for their clients. He holds multiple licenses and specialty designations for securities and for insurance products, including Series 7, 66 and 24. He also writes regularly for publication, with links available on his blog and here, and is a frequent guest speaker on financial matters. Bob is married to his bride of over 30 years, Ginny, who is a fifth grade teacher. They have three grown children.
