Russel is the Social Media Director for the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, working to increase the engagement and online presence of TranBC and DriveBC.
He first got his start in promotions, public relations and branding in 2004 as a radio announcer and producer, building relationships with listeners and increasing brand awareness for the stations and advertisers.
Since then, he’s consulted as a social media and public relations strategist for The Weather Network, been the communications manager and first social media strategist for the B.C. Government Caucus and started a part-time consulting business: Communications Kitchen. His passion for social media and engagement is demonstrated through his role as writer and administrator of The Upsell, an emerging blog on customer service and online engagement; co-host of a weekly YouTube show on engagement called Getting Engaged – Online, in Life and at Work; and host of a seminar on using social media for career advancement shared at the University of Victoria and as part of the Camosun College Career Development Seminar Series.
Russel spoke at 2010 Social Media Camp and 2011 Social Media Camp in Victoria; did social media consulting for the Canadian Public Relations Society – Vancouver Island, was the blogger and MC for TEDxJuanDeFuca and guest blogger for Sprout Social: Insights.
