Hi, I’m Sam. I am a digital health researcher and quantitative physiologist focused on characterizing physical behaviors (physical activity, sleep, sedentary behavior) and their associations with health.

I am a former program officer at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Office of Behavioral and Social Science Research (OBSSR) where I work on the digital health portfolio including developing funding opportunities and facilitating and coordinating digital health strategies.

I completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the NIH Intramural Research Program in Bethesda, MD through the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) where I worked in the Human Energy and Body Weight Regulation Core - Metabolic Clinical Research Unit.

I received my PhD in Kinesiology - Exercise Physiology from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2020.

I have extensive training in measuring human energy metabolism, body composition, and working with high resolution digital data streams from wearable sensors to characterize physiological phenomena. I have additional training and interest in data science, biostatistics, and epidemiology and aim to better harness the power of digital health technologies and leverage digital data streams to improve our understanding of chronic disease development, particularly in cardiometabolic disorders.
