A product of Virginia and the homeschooling movement. Her writing has shown up in the magazines The Fiddlehead, The Fog Horn, ThickJam, Digital Americana, Nibble, The Blue Route, Hail, Muse! etc, and The Jack, among others; her novels are published in the UK, United States, Canada, and Australia. She holds an MA in Prose Fiction from the University of East Anglia, and completed the Ph.D. in Creative and Critical Writing at UEA in 2017 with the submission of a thesis on extra-legal censorship and the U.S. education system. Besides writing fiction and occasional teaching, she acts as co-director and editor atSeam Editions.

Her first novel, The Shore, was longlisted for the Women's Prize and shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award and the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award.
