Sarah Seitz

Kingston, Ontario, Canada

Sarah Seitz has been fascinated by the transformation of natural materials since she lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico twelve years ago. Her background in outdoor education and critical problem solving has evolved to include Sustainable Design, Product Development, and Hands-on Construction. It has proven helpful in the creation and repair of innovative buildings, and has shifted to the processes of material formulation, production, installation and distribution. A graduate of Fleming College’s Sustainable Building Design & Construction Program, Sarah has worked on a wide range of natural and conventional building projects throughout Canada and the United States.

Sarah is currently a PhD student in the Sustainable Engineering for Remote Areas program at Queen's University. Sarah's research focuses on alternative and renewable materials for sustainable building solutions. In particular, she is investigating the thermal properties of biofibre stressed-skin panels. In addition to her laboratory tests, thermal modelling and field investigations, Sarah is also using systems modelling to evaluate the logistics of fabricating, transporting and installing biofibre panels in remote communities.
