Dr. Sarphan Uzunoglu is the executive director and founder of NewsLabTurkey.org and the project coordinator of various projects for this organization. In addition to these roles, Uzunoglu recently began working as an Adjunct Professor at Bilgi University and Ankara Bilim University. He offers courses on journalism, social media, public relations, big data, media ethics, and media management.

Uzunoglu became an Ashoka Fellow in 2021.

He also works as a media consultant for the European Endowment For Democracy and as an external assessor for the International Fact-checking Network.

Prior to his recent roles, Dr. Uzunoglu worked as an Assistant Professor of Multimedia Journalism in the Department of Communication Arts and served as the Online Security Director for the Institute of Media Research and Training at Lebanese American University.

Before his position at LAU, Dr. Uzunoglu also worked as an Associate Professor at UiT Arctic University of Norway's Language and Culture Department, as well as a senior lecturer in Kadir Has University's (Istanbul) New Media, Public Relations, and Information Departments.

Dr. Uzunoglu obtained his PhD degree from Galatasaray University's Media and Communication Studies program. He wrote his PhD thesis on the precariousness of journalistic labor in Turkey's journalism industry and the technological, political, and financial factors underlying this process of precarization. Before his PhD studies, he earned his MA degree from Kadir Has University's New Media Graduate Program after completing his thesis titled "Resistance From Within Hegemony: The Rise of Semi-Anonymous Resistance in Turkey's New Media Environment."

Uzunoglu was also a co-founder of Journo.com.tr and TGS Academy (Journalists' Union of Turkey Academy), as well as a regular contributor to Punto 24 and several other independent media organizations.

Prior to his academic career, Uzunoglu worked in the Turkish Grand National Assembly as a political communication advisor and at Agora Publishing as an editor and copyrights coordinator.
