Scott McCrary

I'm a freelance TV news producer and a communications consultant, sharing the strategies for success I've gathered from a careers that have taken me from a small radio station to the corridors of power in Washington.

I served as Communications Director for Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, acting as spokesman, writer, and senior adviser to the 12th-term Democrat representing the District of Columbia.

Before that, I spent most of a decade as a producer for CBS News.

I led the DC team for CBS Newspath, writing and producing daily stories distributed to more than 180 CBS affiliates and 40-plus foreign broadcast partners for use in their respective newscasts. I served as a lead producer for Newspath's coverage of the White House, Congress, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the 2008 Presidential race, nominating conventions, and election.

I was also a Contributing Producer for CBS's Face the Nation.

My career began with a weekend gig during college, writing and running scripts for a small market, all-news AM radio station in 1998.

Since then, I've called myself a writer, show producer, contributor, special projects producer, and field producer.

I even spent a little time as an on-air sidekick to some outspoken women on a satellite radio show.

I've had the opportunity to share what I've learned with RTNDA seminars, classes at the Television News Center in Washington, and students at my alma mater - the Elon University School of Communications.

In my downtime, you'll probably find me experimenting in the kitchen, learning at a wine shop, on the road (occasionally with a destination in mind) or celebrating life with friends at home in DC.
