Serena McKinney

Irvine, CA

Teacher, wife, tech lover, blogger, music listener, Pinterest lurker, dog snuggler, sunshine sunner, iphone picture taker, tennis player, golf watcher, windows down ridin' nerdy type of girl.

Growing up in San Diego, I was a beach baby, athlete, and school nerd. After graduating from the University of San Diego in 2006 with a BA in English and my single subject teaching credential, I moved to Orange County for better job prospects. I was hired as the 7th/8th grade English teacher at Sierra Vista Middle School in Irvine, CA after my first interview.

Throughout my 6 years there, I was the ASB Director, Fundraising Coordinator, and Lead Technology Advisory Coach. In 2012, I was honored by my staff with Teacher of the Year for my school site. I always enjoyed making my classroom a place where kids took risks, felt comfortable being creative, and enjoyed walking into each day. At the start of the 2013 school year, I made a career move into the Irvine Unified District Office as the Educational Technology Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA). I am loving the opportunity to build relationships with teachers across the district and develop professional learning for ed tech integration in our classrooms.

Technology is a big part of my life and always made my lessons engaging, efficient and unique. Sharing my trials/errors with other teachers, and learning from others has recently made a huge impact on my career in the best way!

Feel free to follow me on Twitter, join the blog email list, or ask to join my Edmodo! I'd love to hear from you.
