Shaheera Asante -De Waele

Shaheera Asante-De Waele is the Founding Partner of NYOTA MEDIA - the world's first communication and PR agency for innovative African entrepreneurs, start-ups and international companies that use technology to improve the lives of Africans.

Meaning 'star'in Swahili, NYOTA MEDIA launched in early December 2012.

Shaheera is the editor of the blog BfabAfrica, and is a former BBC Journalist, Senior Editor and Producer. Shaheera has presented and produced programmes for BBC Africa, BBC World Service, BBC TV, BBC Radio 3 and 4 and was an executive producer for the Africa 05 season.

An award-winning TV presenter in Canada, Shaheera has over 20 years extensive experience in content writing, editorial, broadcasting production, media relations and digital marketing.

Born in London, she is of Ghanaian ( father) and Guyanese /Arawak Indian ( mother) heritage, and is a direct descendant of the Fante Royal African family in Ghana. Her grandmother was Queen mother Oyemun of Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan District, in the Western Region of Ghana. She has lived and travelled extensively in Africa, North America and Europe, and is a well-known African innovation advocate within African media circles.

Her work, awards and African cultural events earned her an invitation to Buckingham Palace in 2007 on invitation by Her Majesty the Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh where she and 100 of her peers were acknowledged by The Queen for their work on promoting African culture in Britain.

Shaheera holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Humanities from University of Alberta Canada, and a Diploma in Journalism from BCIT, Canada.

Shaheera is married and lives with his husband and son in London and Cambridge, UK.
