I am circumspect and calculated with words and take time to comprehend the subject before giving comments. I like and respect people who have positive outlook towards life and who smile even at the face of adversity.
I truly believe that people should be felxible in their opinions and ideas, and should be open to suggestions and scrutiny. Idea is not to suggest that one should not be firm, but to underscore the fact that one needs to be progressive in outlook as well.
To certain extent, society has moulded us into orthodox manner of thinking and our interactions with others are also influenced by those mouldings. We need to evolve. Notions of classifying things into good and bad will do no good to anyone. Packing childern's schoolbags with numerous books will not be helpful if not detremental. I strongly believe that our society needs strong makeover to adjust to changing reality.
Ineluctable and irresistible proclivity of Indian intelligentsia to draw parallel from enriched history to insulate the status-quo from onslaught of metamorphosis is deleterious. Reformers of 19th century were encountered with similar questions and they presented a very broad concept to silence all the critics. Today’s society is in dire need of similar reformist era.
Instead of treating topics related to sex, religion, and politics as taboo, we should have a constructive, robust, and comprehensive discussion on them to dispel huge misconceptions that today’s generation has developed about these subjects.
'Objective Self-Criticism' and 'Tendering Apology' are two qualities that we seriously lack and need to learn as soon as possible. I am not saying that we should be defensive or submissive, but we need to be polite enough to acknowledge the greatness of others and inculcate the habit of learning from them instead of competing all the times.
It should not be misconstrued that everything about us is bad or we need to embrance some other culture, but the need is to underscore the fact that we need to add newer dimension to our indentities.
Gone are the days when we can be protectionist about ourselves and deride the inevitable change. We have to embrace change and be proactive than reactive.
