Like most meteorologists, it seems, I was struck with a passion for the weather at a young age. In a booklet commemorating my "graduation" from elementary school, I said that when I grew up, I wanted to work at the National Hurricane Center. I may not be at the NHC, but I am a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Green Bay, WI. I think my 11 year-old self made a pretty decent forecast.
After obtaining my B.S. and M.S. in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma, I spent 4.5 years as the state fire meteorologist at the Florida Forest Service. Along the way, I've gained experience in various areas of meteorlogy including tropical weather, winter weather, fire weather, and radar meteorology. I've also overseen a project to create a weather and smoke modeling framework.
I'm a bit of a dual polarization evangelist, and have done research on winter precipitation and the characteristics of smoke in dual pol radar data. I also have experince in decision support, assisting Florida's emergency management community during the Deepwater Horizon incident and during Hurricane Isaac.
