Sonia Alfonso was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and since a young age, she knew that she would become an artist.

Sonia began singing professionally at the age of 18 years old and she was only 19 when represented her country in Mexico during the OTI Festival in 1984 obtaining the 5th place out of 21 countries that participated.

After a great career as ballad singer, Sonia discovered her passion for acting. She made few appearances at prominent musical theater productions as "Claudia", one of the main characters, in the first Spanish version of the renowned Broadway musical "In the heights" from Lin Manuel Miranda.

In 2018 Sonia had one of his dreams came true being part of the great musical Mamma mia! In one of the main characters as Rossie.

Sonia also participated in a few films such as her playing in "The feast of the goat" with Isabella Rosellinni and Steven Bauer and her participation in the biopicture "Maria Montez" with Celines Toribio.

As it can be seen in her portfolio Sonia has made a turning point in her life as an artist participating in the jazz genre, making it big with a new jazz album titled "Feeling good" for which she successfully made the Spanish adaptation of 2 great jazz standards, "Summertime" (Es verano) and "The man I love" (Mi gran amor). Both versions received approval from the well known publishers Warner Chappell & Warner Brothers Music Group. This is big news since for the first time in almost 80 years these standards will be sung in Spanish thanks to Sonia.

The Dominican singer has also written the English adaptation to the Latin classic "Voy a apagar la luz" (I will turn off the light) from the great Mexican author Armando Manzanero. He was so pleased with her adaptation that he gave his approval. She also invited the great Cuban trumpet player Arturo Sandoval, (winner of 9 Grammys) to participate in this version.

Sonia was the first dominican jazz vocalist at the Blue Note Jazz Festival celebrated this past June 2016 in all the Blue Note club's circuit. Her performance at the Subrosa Club, was so acclaimed that she was scheduled to comeback 3 months later in September 22 and 24, and she had 4 more great concerts!!

We are very excited about all the good vibes and good music and good surprises Sonia has for us!
