Stanley Lambertus completed his medical studies at Radboud University in Nijmegen. He developed a passion for research and ophthalmology during his final year, leading him to participate in clinical research on Stargardt disease at Radboud university medical center. After completing his medical studies, he continued with PhD research on Stargardt disease, which resulted in his thesis "Stargardt disease - Toward clinical trials". Following his residency at Radboud university medical center, he started as an ophthalmologist at Jeroen Bosch Hospital.
