Stephen Carver mis-spent his youth on a 650cc BSA before riding it to university, funding his degree by working on building sites. He started publishing fiction and non-fiction as an undergraduate, and went on to gain a Ph.D in English Literature from the University of East Anglia, where he taught for sixteen years, with a three year break in Japan as a Professor of English at the University of Fukui. He is now a professional editor, and still teaches in the private sector for the Unthank School of Writing, where he is Head of Online Courses. He is the biographer of the Victorian novelist William Harrison Ainsworth, and has published extensively on gothic film and fiction. His short stories have appeared in Not-Not, Cascando, Birdsuit, and Veto, and his first novel, Shark Alley: The Memoirs of a Penny-a-Liner, has just been released as a book and an online serial. He is very happily married to the artist Gracie Carver, and the couple live in Norfolk with their young son and far too many books and motorcycles, including the BSA.
