Steve Thompson | PhD

I am on faculty at Georgia Southern, Johns Hopkins University and UMUC. I taught at Dartmouth College, Towson University, and Clemson University in the past. My research is on Internet phenomena related to human enhancement, new media, Internet society, privacy, and technology topics. I design stuff found at equashion.com. A former professional newsman, my expertise is in new media, information literacy, and analysis of Internet technologies as existential phenomena. My engineering focus in STS is a primary lens through which I conduct research, leveraging ethics, philosophies, and policies for new AI at cybernetic, cybersemiotic, and cyberwarfare levels. I edited the 2014 published reference book Global Issues and Ethical Considerations in Human Enhancement Technologies and am editor for the Handbook of Reference on Androids, Cyborgs, and Robots in Contemporary Culture and Society to be published in 2016.
