We furnish such unpublished primary source material as handwritten diaries in sets, ledgers, quotidiana, muniments, congeries, daybooks, common place books, etc. Shown here as background is a section of Clinton Able Haskins's 1887 diary from Vermont where he was a prosperous farmer. Details are related about daily life in a way that is immediate and evocative—part of the power of manuscript Americana.
We also sell nonfiction books about making and doing. Concentrations include graphic design, typography, bibliography, books about books, and bookish pursuits. We have many books about making things. Fine and private letterpress publications, and artist books, are another specialty. Another is New York State history.
There are plenty of photographs of what we're up to on our Facebook page.
We're on the ground floor of Hudson's "Flatiron Building" (dating from 1844) at 757 Columbia Street, corner of Eighth Street; we are open Tuesday - Sunday 11 am to 5 pm, and by appointment. If you're coming a distance, please telephone ahead to avoid disappointment: 518-478-3660.
Come to this charming rural town on the Hudson River and enjoy superb art and antique galleries, the best restaurants and, of course, Stoddard Corner Bookshop! There are three other bookstores in town: Hudson City Books, The Spotty Dog Books and Ale, and Record Shoppe. We're 100 miles north of Manhattan (there are several Amtrak trains a day from Penn Station to our restored Victorian terminus) and 40 miles south of Albany. The walk from the station is a pleasant one mile, or you can take a waiting taxi. Visit tripadvisor.com for reviews and recommendations of what Hudson has to offer.
