Kevin Strait

Spokane, WA

Education professional Kevin Strait has spent the majority of his life in Washington, but he recently took a position as a Science Teacher at the American International School in Kuwait City, Kuwait. Although it is a high school, the American International School offers a rigorous baccalaureate curriculum, comparable to the first two years of college in the United States. Kevin Strait taught upper-level chemistry, human anatomy and physiology, biology, and environmental science courses. Previously, he spent 30 years teaching science at Mead High School in Spokane, Washington, where he worked to develop scientifically literate students. He also led the school's Environmental Science Club and coached girls' track and field.

As a teacher, Kevin Strait strives to connect with his students to foster a stable, nurturing, and safe environment for them to learn. He enjoys robust classroom discussions and has developed strong, effective communication skills through his years as a teacher. To prepare for his career, he attended Spokane Falls Community College for his general classes, then enrolled in Eastern Washington University. There, he double majored, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with minors in chemistry and geology. Kevin Strait began teaching at Mead High School upon graduation but returned to school nearly two decades later to pursue his graduate degree, a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Biology and Science Teaching. To stay current, he continues to take classes that help him hone his teaching skills and adapt to new topics and methods.

In his free time, Kevin Strait enjoys supporting charities and nonprofits such as Young Life, a Christian ministry focused on helping youth. He is also heavily involved with the Covenant United Methodist Church, where he is Chairman of the Building Committee and Chairman of the Trustees. Kevin Strait also incorporates fitness and exercise into his life, regularly working out and hiking in the Washington wilderness.
