Starting in the fall 2002, Ingemar Pongratz became involved in the process of preparing applications for EU funding. In 2002, the European research community was preparing for the new EU funding programe FP6. FP6 represented a new way to influence European research policy, and to create large, well funded consortia of researchers to be in a position to gather sufficient critical mass to truly influence research and provide durable impact. In addition, FP6 was the first time European research was required to interact with society at large and research communication was given a prominent role in the activities of the research projects.
Ingemar Pongratz was involved in preparation of a large EU funded application for a large EU Network of Excellence. Thanks to extensive preparation Ingemar was able to present a successful proposal and became vice-coordinator. The work involved a major role in the European Research Area and Ingemar took advantage of this to expand the funding base. Ingemar proved to be very successful in this area and has a very successful track record of successful EU applications, with well over 50 Million EURO worth of projects.
In 2011 Ingemar Pongratz established a company with dual purposes, one arm of the company is aiming to commercialize some of the research knowledge developed by him and his group. The second arm of the company is a consultancy service which is active in writing EU funded proposal and developing funding strategies for companies and academics.
