Tom Farr

London, England, United Kingdom

Currently a civil servant on the Government Fast Stream graduate programme, I am rotating through a variety of positions across different departments, developing my commercial, policy, finance, operational and strategic capabilities. My postings so far have included commercial procurement at the Ministry of Defence, operational policy at the Department of Health and legislative policy at the Insolvency Service.

Through my interest in and subsequent study of languages, I have spent time from the age of 18 living and working in Buenos Aires, Paris, Albuquerque and La Paz, undertaking roles in a legal practice, advertising agency, presidential election campaign and for an English-language magazine respectively.

I have also undertaken a Masters in European Business at ESCP Europe, studying in London and Madrid, to further my knowledge of business practice, which I hope will supplement the practical understanding I am gaining through the civil service and be of significant use to me as I aspire to be making decisions affecting all business areas of my team or business.

My study and professional experience so far has developed both my linguistic skills and understanding of the cultural differences in a range of work environments. I am now fluent in Spanish and French, have a working knowledge of Portuguese and have taken basic Arabic classes.

My other major interests include sport (both playing and watching it), particularly football, reading, travel and going to the theatre.
