I am currently a Ph.D candidate at Montana State University in Ecology and Environmental Sciences. My dissertation focuses sub-ice aquatic systems in Antarctica, with my overarching interests being in biogeochemistry and microbial ecology in energy-limited environments. The study of energy-limited environments allows us to examine the limits of life on Earth and beyond, and to pose questions about ecosystem structure and function within the framework of relatively simple "natural laboratories". Currently, my research focuses on Subglacial Lake Whillans, which lies 800 meters beneath the surface of the Antarctic ice sheet, and on the ocean beneath the Ross Ice Shelf. I expect to complete my Ph.D in 2015, and am seeking postdoctoral opportunities in microbial ecology, biogeochemistry, and aquatic systems.
