Wajahat S. Khan

Wajahat S. Khan is Pakistan’s only Emmy-nominated reporter.

Currently, Khan is reporting & producing from Islamabad for NBC News, America’s largest news network, and is the National Security Correspondent for Lahore-based Pakistani media powerhouse, Dunya News. He also reports for The Times of London.

Recently nominated for an Emmy in the “Breaking News” group for NBC’s work in the ’15 Nepal earthquake, Khan has also served as the first and only Pakistani Fellow at the Shorenstein Center for the Media, Politics and Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

He is also an Asia Society Global Leader, a Transparency International Young Journalist Fellow, and has lectured at Harvard, Mount Holyoke, Northeastern, RUSI, the National Defence University, the Command & Staff College, Karachi University and the Lahore University of Management Sciences and the National University for Modern Languages.

Previously, Khan has strung for CNN, contributed to the BBC, and helped launch Pakistan’s primary networks, Geo and Dawn News.

In print, he has edited and corresponded for Pakistan’s major dailies and periodicals – Dawn, The News, The Express Tribune, The Friday Times and The Herald.

Khan often comments for India Today, India’s largest weekly and has been often quoted by the Guardian, the Independent, the New York Times and the Washington Post.

With an interest in South Asia’s security, Khan is the only Pakistani reporter to have been embedded with over 60 units of the Pakistani military as well as US/NATO/ISAF forces in Afghanistan.

He is also the first broadcaster from Pakistan to produce a series from across the ‘divide’ in India, as well as the only locally produced (and eventually banned) independent documentary TV series on the Pakistani military.

He has Political Science & History majors from the University of Michigan – where he also edited and reported for his university paper, The Michigan Daily – and has recently founded the Bureau of Investigative Reporting, a not-for-profit transparency reporting collective.

He lives in Islamabad, but lives for the road.
